WHY JOIN SPEAKING AND LEADING TOASTMASTERS?
How it works
The environment in a Toastmasters club is friendly and supportive. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued – from complete beginners to advanced speakers. In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. There is no rush and no pressure: The Toastmasters program allows you to progress at your own pace.
Being a good presenter
Presentation, public speaking, or however you call it. The ability to speak confidently and clearly is no doubt a skill one can benefit from in all areas of his/her life! Toastmasters combines communication with leadership. In Toastmasters you will hone your speaking skills, and you will develop leadership abilities – through evaluations, listening, mentoring, serving as club officers and filling roles in club meetings. You will take those leadership skills out into the world, running businesses, mentoring youths, organizing fund-raisers, coaching teams and heading up families.
fun and games
Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmasters compete in the speech contests. Competition begins with club contests and progresses on to larger audiences and some even to the semifinal and the World Championship of Public Speaking.®
Pay attention to your thoughts
They become words
Pay attention to your words,
they become your speech
pay attention to your speech
it will captivate and inspire your audience
I joined Toastmasters in 2015 to get more speaking opportunities. The concept of Toastmasters International, regular training including feedback convinced me. I started with the HanseRednern and a little later with the City Rednern in Hamburg. According to third parties who have accompanied me over the past six years, I have become significantly better at public speaking. In 2018, after getting a lot from Toastmasters, my intention was to give a lot back. Since then, I have been involved at various levels to help other people get their public speaking training in a Toastmasters club. Including serving as President in various clubs, Area and Division Director. Rhetoric and leadership training at reasonable conditions, with great people and friends, that is Toastmasters International.
Actually, I joined Toastmasters to practice my English. But I quickly realized that speaking in front of a group helps to improve my self-confidence. Apart from that, Toastmasters meetings are simply fun! I met a lot of interesting people and listened to fascinating speeches so far.
Toastmasters have expanded my horizen beyond what I can imagine. As a result I become more confident and compassionate.
In the beginning, I joined toastmasters to learn how to get my message across, but after some time I realized that Toastmasters is more than that. Through Toastmasters I learned a lot about communication and only through Toastmasters I realized, that communication is actually the most important key skill you need everywhere in life. It makes life easier and more fun if you are able to give someone effective feedback or to consider the point of view of your interlocutor in your argumentation. Yes, you learn to give amazing speeches here, but there is a lot more to discover at Toastmasters – and it´s fun!
I came to Toastmasters between two jobs to further develop my presentation skills. I’ve been a member for over eight years now and keep discovering reasons to stay as a member, for there is so much to learn. I also enjoy being part of a global community of people who want to develop themselves.
I joined Toastmasters because I believe that the constant improvement of one’s own public speaking skills will not just help boost one’s career but also strengthen one’s character. I stayed with toastmasters because the atmosphere during the sessions is just so pleasant: Everyone there genuinely wants to see you succeed and improve, and they will show you that with tons of helpful feedback.
